As in life (I think this was coined by Mike Ditka, or was it Yogi Berra or even Chi Chi), a small amount of history is in order before one can have fun with a subject. The Tax History Project (www.taxhistory.org) from Tax Analysts is a very interesting site. Find links to a Tax History Museum, Presidential Tax Returns from Nixon to Bush plus Franklin Roosevelt's, the history of Federalism Tax and an Image Gallery.

FDR's 1934 Tax Return - 4 pages
Even in history there is humor. Please view FDR's 1937 tax return. FDR could not calculate his tax due and FDR wrote the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service requesting his assistance with the calculation. FDR charitably forwarded a $15,000 check for "a good deal more than half of the eventual tax". Now, where were FDR's assistant's and accountants? Also note the hand-written return as in 1934.
